Run each piece of software to make sure the licenses are all active. From the the “Localhost:/ root#” prompt type:ġ2. I prefer to use the unix shutdown command to restart. Once fsck completes, if you see a “File system was modified” message, then you should run “/sbin/fsck -fy” again until you see a message stating “The volume (name) appears to be OK” – this is standard procedure of using fsck. It took me about 4 hours for the transfer to happen. The new Mac migration assistant will say that an account already exists on the new machine, and do you want to replace it. At this point, go to your old Mac and initiate Migration Assistant on the old machine, and select migrate to a new computer.Ĩ. It will appear as if the transfer will happen via wifi, but if you are connected via direct Thunderbolt cable, it will transfer faster and with less headaches via that. On the new machine restart Migration Assistant and get the point of connecting to the old machine. Connect to the new machine via Thunderbolt or Firewire to Thunderbolt adapter.ħ. (Do Not Boot the old Mac into Target Disk Mode as the old Migration assistants required. Boot your old Mac log into your old admin account or root if you prefer. You will not need to log into the Appstore for this.

You need to upgrade from 10.11 to 10.12 before you can use migration assistant. Migration assistant won't migrate until os updated to the current os (or at least a newer version) which is understandable. A New Mac comes with older El Captan OS than old mac which is on Sierra.
